KMeasure delivers first batch of electronic test equipment to the University of Johannesburg

In 2011 KMeasure won a tender to supply the University of Johannesburg with electronic test equipment for their engineering student training labs. The University will be using the Elab 7-in-1 electronic instrument at the Faculty of Engineering's electronic labs.  The Elab offers an oscilloscope, logic analyser, waveform generator, mini-power supply, programmable clocks and more.

The first batch of the instruments was delivered in February, and promises to simplify the University's logistics regarding equipment (as a single instrument now replaces a range of other ones previously needed), as well as the student training methods.

USB2.0 Protocol Analyser

K Measure has added the 1480A pocket-sized USB protocol analyser to its range of affordable tools for the development engineer.

The USB analyzer supports USB standards 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and OTG 1.3.  It fully supports all speeds: 1,5 Mbps (Low Speed), 12 Mbps (Full Speed) and 480 Mbps (High Speed).  The USB analyser is easy to set up and comes with many example capture files and a tutorial to explain them, such as an HS Flashdisk, USB mouse, USB speakers and many more.  The software also features unlimited recording lenght, real-time display of data (display while capturing), absolute and relative timestamps, advanced filters, and cursors and bookmarks.

KMeasure also supplies other protocol analysers for SPI, I2C, 1-wire, CAN, MODbus, AC97 audio and others.

4-Channel PC-Based Oscilloscope

K Measure has added the DSO3064 four-channel oscilloscope from Hantek to its range of electronic test and measurement equipment.

The PC-based test instrument has been designed with industrial and specifically automotive use in mind, which is reflected by its feature list.

It features the customary USB port found in PC-based oscilloscopes, but also comes with a LAN (Ethernet) port and WiFi port for remote diagnostics.  Furthermore, the DSO3064 PC-scope has a ruggedised metal enclosure and can accept a supply of voltage form 8 to 36VDC.  The scope samples at 200Msps and has a 16M memory depth.

Because the DSO3064 has been designed with automotive diagnostics in mind, it features more than 50 automotive specific measurements, such as camshaft sensor analysis, CAN and LIN bus analysis and many more.  An automotive test kit is also available with 9 different probes and adapters designed specifically to make vehicle measurements.

Handheld Scopemeter

K Measure recently added Hantek's DSO1060 handheld oscilloscope and multimeter combination to its range of test and measurement equipment.

With both multimeter and oscilloscope functions, isolated ground, 6 hours battery life, the ability to store 1000 captured waveforms and a USB port to download data to a PC, this portable scopemeter is well suited for field work.  A comprehensive offering of software measurements (on both the time and volt axes), FFT (spectrum analyser function), math functions on channels and X-Y plotting of data, serve the needs of development engineers in the lab environment.

The dual-channel oscilloscope captures data at 150 Msps over a 60MHz bandwidth.  It features a USB2.0 interface, is battery- or AC powered and boasts a large backlit display, intuitive user interface, 23 measurements and pass/fail testing.  The package includes multimeter and oscilloscope probes, PC-software, a padded travel bag and battery plus AC adapter.

Bus Protocol Converters

K Measure has become the local supplier for Trycom's range of industrial bus converters.  Trycom has a wide range of industrial-grade devices that convert between most modern busses including USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and fibre-optic, as well as legacy busses such as RS232, RS422 and RS485.  Their rugged construction makes them suitable for industrial installations.  These bus converters are optically isolated for electrical surge and noise protection and are DIN rail mountable.

These products complement K Measure's existing range of bus converters that convert USB, I2C, SPI and TTL-UART.  Applications for these converters are typically more orientated towards electronic development.

An easy-to-use wizard showing which products convert between which busses can be found on the bus-converter page.

K Measure supplies Samsung Training Lab

K Measure was recently selected to supply Samsung South Africa with Oscilloscopes and Multimeters for its technical training labs in Boksburg on Gauteng's East Rand, which were opened on 7 March 2011.

The Oscilloscopes and Multimeters will be used to train selected students from Grade 10 onwards in all theoretical and practical aspects of technical support on electrical and electronic equipment, producing fully trained technicians ready for the field.

Samsung will be using the DSO-1200 handheld Digital Storage Oscilloscope / Spectrum Analyser / Multimeter (Scopemeter) and the DMM-8061 Digital Multimeter during the practical training phase of the course.

The DSO-1200 Oscilloscope was chosen for its intuitive user-interface as well as its excellent specifications.  It has a sampling speed of 500 MSPS and can be AC or battery powered with a 6-hour battery life.  This oscilloscope supports a total of 23 measurements and can do a spectrum analysis (FFT) on the input signal.  The DSO-1200 Scopemeter also has a USB port for connecting to a PC, which makes it especially suitable for training purposes: the instructor can use a screen in the front of the classroom to project what he is doing on his oscilloscope via his PC, and the students can follow on their own units.

The DMM-8061 Digital Multimeter was chosen because, in addition to all the standard multimeter measurements like voltage, current and resistance, this multimeter can also measure capacitance, frequency, duty cycle and temperature up to 1000degr.  Once again, the multimeter's PC interface was of special interest to Samsung and made it an excellent choice for the training environment.

Both the DSO-1200 Oscilloscope and the DMM-8061 Digital Multimeter are also very popular with many other industries ranging from electronic development to automotive and mining for the same reasons mentioned above.

Over the past two years, K Measure has been chosen as a supplier of test and measurement equipment to many tertiary institutions in South Africa and, indeed, the rest of Africa as far as Ethiopia.  Some of these institutions include the University of Johannesburg, Rhodes University, Vaal University of Technology, University of Cape Town, University of Swaziland and Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Digital Multimeter from K Measure

K Measure offers an innovative multimeter from Tecpel.  The DMM-8061 Digital Multimeter has all functionality to compare with any top-range multimeter, but at a price everyone can afford.

Some of its functions include auto- and manual ranging, true RMS, overload protection, backlight, measurement hold and also delta measurement.  This digital multimeter complies with CAT II and CAT IV safety standards and comes in a stylish red and dark grey package.  It also has an optically-isolated RS232 port and comes with PC software that enables a person to monitor a line for transient voltages without having to actually look at the multimeter all the time, for example.

The DMM-8061 Digital Multimeter also enables you to do data logging, including temperature logging.  Besides measuring the normal current, voltage, resistance and continuity (buzzer), it can also measure diodes, capacitance, frequency, duty cycle and temperature (-40 to +1000degr Celsius).
